Tesco uses sophisticated Applicant Tracking Systems to extract your contact details, work history, and skills automatically. If you upload a CV heavily designed in Canva, full of text boxes, images, and unusual fonts, the ATS simply cannot read it.
When the system fails to parse the document, it creates a blank candidate profile. Since a blank profile contains no evidence of Communication skills or work history, the algorithm automatically bins it. The store manager is never notified that a document was even uploaded.
To survive this digital hurdle, you must use a standard, linear format. Stick to simple Word documents or standard PDFs. Use standard headings like "Work Experience" and "Education" so the software knows exactly where to look for your data.
"I have formatted my CV chronologically, using standard Arial font and clear bullet points to ensure full compatibility with automated recruitment software."
A plain, boring CV that the computer can read will always beat a beautiful, graphic-heavy CV that the computer cannot process. Keep it incredibly simple to ensure you actually make it to the human review stage.
